Feng shui originated in China 3,000 years ago and literally means wind and water. It is about the layout (=organization) of your home and office and how this can improve or negatively affect your life. More and more architects and interior designers are taking its principles into account, and several big organizations, e.g. the bank HSBC and Body Shop have had their stores or offices designed with advice from a feng shui practitioner.

CHARLES'S ROOM

Lucy dislikes
the sofa: It's like something in a horror movie / doesn't go with the rest of the room
the computer: reminds her of work / not attractive
the blinds: like a dentist's, not relaxing

likes
the photo frames: wouldn't have put them on the coffee table

GENERAL CRITICISMS
The room is very cold and impersonal, Charles is very lazy, buys the first thing he sees, furniture doesn't go together, he hasn't thought about it.

LUCY'S ROOM

Charles dislikes
the curtains: too feminine, too long
the branches: "typical woman's thing"
the sofa: completely impractical - can't watch footbal and drink beer on it.

likes
the colour of the walls
the fireplace
the shelves: better than his, more stylish

GENERAL CRITICISMS
She's thought about style more than practicality (though generally he thinks it's relaxing and tasteful).
